Bahama Bash Too Much Fun!
About 20 people - including four JIOFC member boats - went on the first annual Seagate Marine / JIOFC Bahama Bash July 28th - 31st to Port Lucaya. It was a ton of fun and the weather was perfect! The group went over on Thursday, and had time to fish that afternoon. Friday was the big Tuna Tournament & Cookout. Check out the website for pictures of the monster tourney winner, lots of fish, the TailGator (a gas powered blender - the hit of the weekend!), the recipe for the new, official JIOFC Bahama Bash Beverage and more. Saturday was “on your own” with some folks fishing, shopping, hitting the casino or just lounging by the pool. Saturday night was another huge cookout. A leisurely Sunday departure allowed for a stop at a great weedline 30 miles off Jupiter and 6 more dolphin were in the box! Smorgasbord Slam Fits the Bill
The first JIOFC “SmorgasbordSlam” was held on Saturday August 6th and no one went away hungry! The Smorgasbord Slam is a fun tournament/cookout for members and guestswhere EVERYONE has an equal chance to win cash and prizes based on what you catch - no matter how big or small (as long as it's
legal!) Participants fished from 7am to 1 pm and enjoyed a cookout at the Old Town Hall afterwards. Everyone attending brought a covered dish or dessert to share. Hamburgers and hot dogs were available for our “seafood challenged” attendees.
Dan Miller filleted the wide range of catch, which included all types of snapper, grouper, kingfish, and rainbow runner - just to name a few. Miki Arch coooked the fish and hushpuppies to perfection on the deep fryer while Mike Arch manned the grill for burgers and hot dogs. Each eligible fish brought to the cookout earned a raffle ticket. A drawing was held and three lucky winners split the entry fee jackpot, although the true winners were everyone that attended the Slam!

JIOFC Marine Flea Market a Success!
The JIOFC Marine
Flea Market was a great success! Tons of marine items were available
and were snatched up at bargain basement prices. If you didn't
get a chance to sell your stuff or buy someone elses you can participate
in the next Flea Market being scheduled for this fall.
JIOFC would like to give a special thanks to
Mike Arch and Nancy Lawrence for all their help. Thanks also to Dan
Miller for coordinating this great event.
JIOFC Angler of the Year Competition
New, Improved Angler of the Year Has More Species, No Minimum Weights and Easier Qualification!
At the request of the JIOFC Board of Directors, an angling committee was convened to revise the AOY guidelines. The number of participants and entries in the annual tournament has declined, and the Board would like to see participation increase.
The committee maintained the overall structure of the tournament, but felt the best way to increase participation is to relax the requirements, make weighing fish more convenient, adding more species, and allowing releases.
The 2005 - 2006 AOY Competition starts on Dec.1 2005 and goes through Nov. 30th 2006. The new rules are printable by clicking on the link below. The new AOY Weigh-in form is currently being printed or you can print from the link below:
